A little project at home… Blue-tongue lizard, acrylic on concrete pavement, 2024
(Music: The Cat Empire - Wild Animals)
That’s a wrap… A letterbox mural featuring Australian native birds that regularly visit the garden and surrounds; and on the same property a wall mural depicting an Edna Walling style garden, complete with a representation of the landscape designer herself, her dog, visiting children and ever present birds. What a privilege to be commissioned this and allowed artistic freedom… the chance to try this trompe l’oeil hole in the wall effect to reveal the hidden garden within this house’s beautiful real-life garden. The bricks are a nod to the original house bricks and some plants modelled from those growing around the wall. The birds chosen from those seen visiting the garden recently… Eastern Spinebill, Rufous fantail, Grey fantail and Black-cockatoos flying overhead. What you can’t hear is surrounding garden full of bird-song … kookaburras, parrots, currawongs, magpies and thornbills to name a few. Needless to say, it was a treat to work there.
Birds featured on the letterbox include Eastern Spinebill, Grey Fantail, Rainbow Lorikeet, King Parrot, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, Laughing Kookaburra, Magpie and Crimson Rosella.

___________________________
Grey-headed flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) are a vulnerable species and are tired of being blamed for being a pest in our backyards, for eating from our fruiting trees. Their forest habitats are being cleared, so they have no other choice.
The Grey-headed Flying-Fox, also known as the Grey-headed Fruit-bat, is one of the largest bats in the world. It’s primary food source is blossom from Eucalyptus but in some areas it also utilises a wide range of rainforest fruits.
Flying foxes play a major role in the regeneration of forests by pollinating as they feed and dispersing seeds as they move throughout the forest.

A Greater Glider peers through the bare page, questioning the viewer. The direct gaze searching for anwers... why is it's habitat decling? Why is its species endangered?
The vulnerable Greater Glider amongst other species are under significant threat due to the logging of old growth forests. Many wildlife species spend time in tree hollow dens, with the Greater Glider using several throughout its range. This makes the extent of logging in our forests deeply concerning. Ironically, the felled trees are used for paper products... this page perhaps?
I find myself conflicted as an artist.. with a passion for preserving Australian wildlife and environment, yet I work predominantly with paper. I try to negate some of this hypocricy by creating endearing images of animals, with the hope my art will help the viewer create a connection to and grow awareness of, nature's diversity and intrinsicvalue.

A Jo’s Desktop Calendar for 2022 ??
I’m afraid not.
Unfortunately I haven’t managed to put together a 2022 calendar this year.
I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy and put my time to some other projects instead like..
- street art painting (to be continued)
- corporate commissions (revealed soon)
- portrait commissions
- freelance desktop publishing and illustration
And between those projects during these weird times we’re in, I’ve tried to slow down, rest and delve into some personal development type art work (like the current Inktober #gulasadventure series).
I’ve had a pretty good run of calendars… as you can see for at least 7 years. And I’m Very grateful for the interest and purchases of them over the years. .. especially those who’ve returned year after year to collect one for themselves or their overseas friends and families. (Apologies if you’ve been waiting for next years to be released).
Stay tuned though… maybe I’ll return to calendars next year with a bigger better one for 2023.
For your 2022 calendar, may I suggest you support one of the many Australian wildlife and environmental charities. Here’s a few suggestions; organisation’s that I like to support, that have calendars ready now
or might have very soon…
Australian Wildlife Conservancy
Keep an eye on my social media stories as I’ll share any others that I see with calendars available. And be sure to let me know if you have or see a great charity calendar.
Cheers, Joanne
Melbourne Market update: Jo's Desktop will be at Yarra Glen Racecourse Market this Sunday 7th November 9am-2pm.
(Sadly Saturday's Red Hill market has been cancelled due to storm damage)
Stay tuned for December markets... Yarra Glen on Sunday 5th December confirmed, Red Hill a maybe.
How sweet are these!
Late 2020 I was commissioned by Vevoke (an Australian bespoke stationary wholesaler) to create 3 designs for Christmas cards for these charity card packs. Of course I said Yes and so here we are rapidly approaching Christmas 2021 and they're now available.
If you see them in your favourite card shop, snap them up... support a charity and Australian artists like 'lil ol' me.
Available at Hello Sunday: https://hellosunday.com/collections/charity-christmas-cards and at many retailers Australia wide.
Decorate your equipment, personalise your stationery and celebrate this unique Aussie animal!
$2 from each sale of this Platypus vinyl sticker is donated to Australian Platypus Conservancy (at end of financial year)
Sticker Features:
- Size: 13cm x 8cm approx
- Permanent, kiss-cut white vinyl adhesive
- Super durable and water-resistant
- 1.5mm white border around the design
- Made in Melbourne
Printed on this stickers is an original painting by Joanne Pearcy - Platypus on green mossy rocks.
Originally painted on wood board in acrylic, this most unique of Australian animals, the Platypus looks to us, asking some tough questions about what we’re doing to protect our environment. Why is he sitting high and dry and not in a lovely clean river? He’s certainly asking for some attention... as are all the wild platypus. This unique egg-laying mammal (a monotreme) is in urgent need of having its conservation classification upgraded to threatened. We can all help by keeping our waterways clear of rubbish and encouraging government bodies to pay more attention to the health of our environment and biodiversity ... also vital for our own livelihoods.
* Please note that although I try hard to get my photo colour accurate to the actual print, computer/device screens may show slight differences.
These and other platypus gifts are available at www.Etsy.com/au/shop/josdesktop
A great gift idea for family or friends.
